My Story
I’m not going to lie. I’m a Pinterest-addicted, Home Edit-loving, HGTV nut. I love organization, interior design, solving problems, and the high I get from making something better than it was before. That being said, I am also a recovering perfectionist. In six short years I had four babies and moved from our first home into our hopefully forever one. Unbeknownst to me, the process of undoing my tightly wound self had been set in motion. I had small humans everywhere who were constantly making messes, undoing things I had just done, and accumulating many belongings that I never seemed to have the time to figure out where to keep. I was sleep-deprived, overwhelmed, and putting a lot of pressure on myself to be perfect. I would look around my house through my groggy mom goggles and see toys and sticky floors and my own shortcomings. My stress would increase, my patience would thin, and somehow I would begin to feel badly about myself and my abilities. I had an idea of the orderly life I wanted in my head but making it a reality seemed impossible. With all of these feelings consuming me, I simply was not able to be the mother that I wanted to be and I certainly wasn’t happy with myself. I had to figure out how to clear the clutter both inside and around me and create an environment that would influence us all in a positive way.
But where would I start? The answer was not in a picture or a pin. It was in a process.
Home and life organization is not about pretty rainbow rows of things on expensive shelves or tossing out
half of your house because it doesn’t ignite joy. It’s about order. It’s about everything having a home. It’s about shedding the unhealthy and the unhappy. It’s about function. It’s about real life happening around you in an actual living space. But more than anything, it’s about the joy that we feel when life moves smoothly because we know where our things are, where they go when we’re done, what comes next, and having the time to do something other than look for our things and scurry around at lightning speed because we’re late and constantly running a race from behind. The day I was able to wrap my head around function-first was the
day I started to get control over our hot mess of a life.

We live in a very visual age where ideas and pictures and how-to videos are constantly at our fingertips. Pretty pictures can provide incredible inspiration for projects, but can also contribute to feelings of discouragement and envy when our own attempts or our own means don’t seem to measure up. I’m not saying organization shouldn’t be pretty, but I am saying that it can’t be the place where we start. Finding order in the chaos is a process that involves planning and routines as much as sorting and beautifying a space. I founded The Hot Mess Healer because after having spent many years in the trenches as an outnumbered mother practicing trial and error in the many spaces and systems in my home and life, I know I can now save other moms a lot
of time and energy so they can get to the work of actually enjoying this most special stage of life.

As The Hot Mess Healer, I don’t just make it my business to organize your home and life. I actually get pretty excited to see your hot mess! I love a good messy closet, a junk drawer that can barely open, or a room littered with toys. No one should ever be embarrassed to give me a tour of their worst disasters. It only gets my gears turning. If your immediate problem is your family’s morning or evening routine, the drop zone for your kids, or keeping track of the never-ending schedule of school events and activities, these are also things
I love to help with. I’m a big believer in home command centers, make-shift mudrooms, meal planning, personalized routines, and even calendars and chore charts specifically catered to inspire small human participation so that life is happy and manageable. When everyone knows where things go and what to expect, a home becomes calmer and the people in it become more productive. This mental picture I’ve just painted is also synonymous with a healthy life. After all, isn’t that what we’re all chasing?
